ELYRIA, Ohio — The Elyria Police Department will be stepping up patrols in the city’s Eastern Heights neighborhood after a strange man allegedly approached a child Monday night.

According to the Elyria School District, a man driving a black newer-model Chevrolet Impala drove through the Eastern Heights neighborhood and then stopped and spoke to a child on Harvard Avenue. The child reported the incident to a parent. The parent called police.

Officials say the driver is described as an obese black man in his 30s but didn’t give any additional specifics.

In response, police will increase patrols in the area while the incident is investigated, according to the school district.
