A fire erupted at an old bird seed processing plant in Wellington Saturday night.

The plant is located at Depot Street near Main Street.

Wellington Police Department says Depot Street remains closed and the power is out in the northwest quadrant of the business district.

Several other surrounding fire departments assisted the Wellington Fire Department as they battle the blaze.

At this time, the fire department is not sure how the fire started. No injuries have been reported.

Wellington police are asking anyone with information about the fire to come forward. Police say there have been several arsons and other suspicious fires since December 2016.

Between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 a.m. Sunday, three suspicious fires, two of which police say were intentional, were set. Fires were set to a home, a police building and a commercial complex. One of those fires resulted in the total loss of the old bird seed factory. Another was a residential building with people inside.

Police say this is now a very dangerous situation which will eventually cost the life or lives of someone.

A $5000 reward is being offered by the Blue Ribbon Arson Committee to anyone who is able to provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of the arsonist(s). Anyone with information about the person or persons responsible is asked to come forward and call the State Fire Marshal's Fire & Explosion Investigation Bureau at 800-589-2728.
