A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Lorain, in which a bullet struck a 6-year-old girl in her home on Monday, police said.

Shawndell Partin, 36, was charged was aggravated riot, obstructing official business and complicity.

According to police, officers received multiple calls about a fight in progress at around 6:49 p.m. in the 1900 block of G Street involving guns.

When police arrived at the scene, they found several witnesses and two suspect vehicles nearby.

Police said two groups were fighting with each other when several shots were fired, with at least one round striking a home in the area. The bullet traveled through the front door and struck the 6-year-old girl in the thigh.

The steel door slowed the bullet, and the child suffered minor injuries.

"If it weren't for that steel door slowing down the bullet, this would've been much more serious," Capt. Roger Watkins told newsnet5.com's Paul Kiska.

Police continue to investigate, and additional arrests are expected, authorities said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Sgt. Buddy Sivert with the Lorain Police Detective Bureau at 440-204-2113.

EDITORIAL NOTE: Police initially reported the victim was 4 years old.
