Just after midnight in an apartment at Westgate Gardens on Leavitt Road, Lorain Police say gunfire erupted leaving two men dead.

Killed in the shooting were 35 year old Jose Morales, and his brother 38 year old Angel Cruz.

“Jose was dead when we got there, and this morning Angel actually died”. said Captain Roger Williams.

A witness who lives in the apartment where the shootings took place was too distraught to go on camera, but she told me Newsnet5’s Paul Kiska the brothers were arguing when one brother shot and killed the other.

She said a neighbor then shot the other brother who later died..

It’s not known if the neighbor acted in self defense, but he has not been charged with murder at this time.

“We are not currently looking for other suspects, we feel like we have a pretty good handle on the investigation, but we have to wait for some forensics and labs to come back”

This is Lorain’s 8th and 9th murders this year.

“This makes Lorain appear to be a very unsafe city, but in actually crime over the year, violent crime in this city has dramatically decreased,” Watkins said.

While aggravated robberies and felony assaults are down, there’s no denying the murder rate is alarming.

Police said neighbor 29 year old Maurice Kimbrough faces several charges including tampering with evidence.
