Streetsboro police update on security issue near school

According to police, a city employee saw a man walking on State Route 303 near Kirby Lane with what appeared to be a long gun. That area is close to the city's police station, board of education and an intermediate school.

When officers arrived at the scene, they couldn't find anyone.

Officers used drones to search a heavily wooded area but were still unable to find anyone.

They also searched the buildings and have since cleared the scene.

Police said that out of an abundance of caution, the bus garage on Annalane Drive was placed on lockdown and school was canceled for the day.

"We're not going to take any chances with our kids and school employees," Streetsboro Police Chief Patricia Wain said.

Police say school grounds and buildings have been cleared.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 330-626-4967.
