Streetsboro City Schools announced they would be closed Monday due to police activity as an abundance of caution.
Watch a 9 a.m. update from police:
According to police, a city employee saw a man walking on State Route 303 near Kirby Lane with what appeared to be a long gun.
When officers arrived at the scene, they couldn't find anyone.
Officers used drones to search the heavily wooded area, but were still unable to find anyone.
Police said that out of an abundance of caution, the bus garage on Annalane Drive was placed on lockdown and school was canceled for the day.
"We're not going to take any chances with our kids and school employees," Streetsboro Police Chief Patricia Wain said.
Officers are currently searching the school buildings.
Wain expected that search to end shortly after she spoke to reporters.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 330-626-4967.
