RICHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — There's a scam going around Richland County where residents get a phone call from someone who says they are with the sheriff's office and then demands money.

Residents have reported that the caller tells whoever answers the phone they will go to jail unless a fine is paid.

According to the real sheriff's office, deputies will never call you and ask for money to pay off a fine, bond or warrant.

If you ever need confirmation that the person you are talking to is a legitimate deputy, you can call the sheriff's office at 419-524-2412 to verify their identity.
