MANSFIELD, Ohio — A retired Mansfield police officer is facing misdemeanor charges for allegedly exposing himself and making lewd comments to a woman near Liberty Park.

During the investigation, police learned the suspect, 77-year-old Barry Lewis, retired from the Mansfield Police Department in 1991.

A Mansfield police report states that while parked next to a woman on May 22, Lewis allegedly solicited a woman for sex, then got out of his car and exposed himself to her.

Authorities stated that they tracked Lewis down at his home after they were given a description of him and his license plate. According to the report, Lewis denied exposing himself but stated that he “may have said something sexual to her.”

He has been charged with Unlawful Restraint and Public Indecency.

Lewis was taken into custody and transported to the Richland County Jail. He has a trial scheduled for July 9.
