Teen arrested for fatal shooting of 32-year-old Carrollton man

A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that happened in a small town in Stark County on Thursday night.

Authorities have charged the suspect, Gage Woods, with one count of murder. Wood is currently being held in the Stark County Jail.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. at a residence in the 9100 block of James Street Southeast, Waynesburg (Sandy Township). The town is about 13 miles southeast of Canton.

When deputies responded to the scene they found the victim, 32-year-old Jerry Hendershott Jr. of Carrollton, with a gunshot wound. Hendershott died at the scene, authorities said.

According to the sheriff's office, Woods fled the scene but was later located in the nearby town of Malvern and taken into custody.
