An Alliance kindergarten student riding a bus Friday was caught with a gun in his backpack after another student informed the bus driver.
An Alliance City School District spokesperson said there was only one other child riding on the bus with the student at the time.
The child brought the gun onto school bus number five in a backpack and showed the other student.
The driver stopped the bus and took the backpack away after he was alerted by the other student.
The district thanked the student who was brave enough to tell the driver in a statement:
I would like to thank the student who was brave enough to report the gun, as well as the bus driver for handling the situation calmly and safely. I would also like to thank the Alliance Police for assisting in this situation and working to keep our students safe.
The district did not say what sort of disciplinary action the student who brought the gun on board will face.
