The Alliance Detox and Recovery Unit inside Alliance Hospital is a possible game-changer in the fight against addiction.
Open since Oct. 30, the unit is fully staffed by medical professionals experienced in addiction. And unlike other detox facilities, patients can be directly admitted through the hospital’s emergency room.
“It requires a change in philosophy for hospitals.” Said CommQuest Services President and CEO Keith Hochadel. “The fact that we’re inside a hospital that we can provide information to the E.R. docs, to the hospitalists, to the other docs, nurses, medical staff and other community around. It has to give us a better chance to succeed with those people in need."
The average stay for patients seeking help is 5-7 days. And once their stay is over, patients are given the resources and tools needed to continue their recovery.
“If they come in we can say, 'hey look we know you need to go to residential care, we know you need to go to medication recovery assistance.' We can start all that while they’re here.”
