The parents accused in the beating death of their 5-year-old daughter Ashley Zhao were indicted on murder charges Tuesday.

Both Liang J. Zhao and Mingming Chen are charged with murder, two counts of endangering children, tampering with evidence, obstructing justice and gross abuse of a corpse, according to the Stark County Common Pleas Court.

Chen, Ashley's mother, struck the girl several times in the head with her right fist. After she was struck on the floor by Chen, the girl's father, Zhao, allegedly found the girl with green fluid coming from her mouth and took her into the bathroom to wash the fluid off of her face, police have said.

Originally Chen was charged with murder and felonious assault. Zhao was charged with complicity to commit murder and complicity to commit felonious assault.

The couple is expected to appear in court on March 15.
