Woman caught posing as grandma sent to jail

The woman who has multiple times been caught on video trying to cash in on a toddler's death by posing as her grandmother was sent to jail with an increased bond Friday.

Lisa Dalesandro, 51, appeared in court 50 minutes late Friday. When she arrived, she was given $100,000 bond and sent to the Stark County Jail.

Dalesandro was arrested Wednesday evening for asking for money for 3-year-old Hailey Miku's memorial fund, even though she is not the slain child's grandmother and a memorial fund does not exist.

Reporter Bob Jones was told by Miku's cousin Chrissy Dinger that the 3-year-old's mother received a tip that Dalesandro and another suspect were panhandling again, trying to raise money for a headstone for Miku. Dinger said she went to a location in the 3400 block of Cleveland Avenue and saw the suspects gathering money from people outside of a church. She then called Canton police.

"They're pathetic," Dinger said. "We already put Hailey to rest. Let us grieve. Just leave us alone. This is not right to be done in her name."

Dalesandro was arrested, along with John McCallister, of Alliance. They were charged with misdemeanor theft, but released Wednesday on signature bonds.

However, jail records confirm McCallister was arrested again on Thursday in connection with the case and booked back into the jail.

McCallister is the toddler's estranged grandfather but police say the man's efforts are "not for the family."

He was also given $100,000 bond in court Friday.

Earlier this month, family of the toddler announced that the woman was caught on cell phone video asking for money to pay for 3-year-old Hailey Miku's headstone.

newsnet5.com confronted Dalesandro outside the Alliance Municipal Court courtroom, where she pleaded not guilty, on Monday. She declined to comment.
