Suspect in Massillon double shooting dies

A man suspected of killing his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend has died, according to the Stark County Coroner's Office.

The coroner reported the suspect, identified as Shane Varner, died at 5:30 a.m Saturday. 

Police say it appeared a man and woman were leaving the man's house when Varner allegedly approached their car and shot them both before leaving the scene.

The man, identified by the Stark County Coroner's Office as Michael Lovette, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was taken by medical helicopter to an Akron hospital where she died during surgery. 

Varner was being treated at a hospital for his injuries.
