An Akron couple is facing animal abuse charges after several dogs were found severely malnourished and neglected early this month.
Richard and Angel Facemire are both charged with felony cruelty to animals and misdemeanor cruelty to animals after officers observed four dogs to be malnourished and neglected, according to an Akron police news release.
Officers found the dogs March 7 at the couple's home in the 400 block of Stanton Avenue while they were serving a warrant for Richard Facemire.
The home had no food or water for the dogs, and several of the dogs appeared to have been in cages for an extended amount of time, the report said.
One of the dogs, a German Shepherd, appeared to be near death. It was taken to a local animal hospital to be treated. Three other dogs were placed in the Summit County Animal Shelter.
Richard Facemire was also charged with possession of drugs. He had a small amount of methamphetamine in his front pocket.
