An Akron man was sentenced to life in prison after kidnapping and sexually assaulting a college student.

Cedric Murphy, 60, will be eligible for parole after serving ten years.

In November of 2016, the victim was out with her friends and decided to walk home. While she was walking, she was approached by Murphy who promised to drive her home to her dorm.

Murphy sexually assaulted the woman while driving and refused to let her out of his vehicle.

The victim eventually jumped out of the vehicle and ran to a home where she called 911. Investigators found Murphy's DNA on the victim.

Judge Patricia Cosgrove also designated Murphy a Tier III sex offender. If he is released from prison, he must register with the local sheriff every 90 days for the rest of his life.

Murphy was found guilty of kidnapping, abduction and two counts of gross sexual imposition. Murphy was also found guilty of a sexually violent predator specification.
