Authorities have arrested three suspects – including two juveniles – in connection with the robbery of a Marco’s Pizza delivery driver in Akron, police said.
The driver, who was delivering for the Marco’s Pizza located at 9 North Hawkins Avenue, was robbed at around 10 p.m. Thursday while attempting to deliver an order in the 1000 block of Roslyn Avenue.
The driver told police he was approached by a suspect armed with a black handgun, who demanded money and food from the victim.
Police said the delivery driver complied with the demands, and the suspect fled to an awaiting parked car nearby before it drove off.
The victim followed the suspect in his delivery vehicle, authorities said, when the suspect vehicle crashed into a telephone pole near the intersection of Stadelman and Hayden avenues.
The suspect then fled the crash scene on foot.
Immediately after the crash, police said they apprehended two males, including 19-year-old Deonte T. Heard, of Akron, as well as a 17-year-old suspect.
The third suspect in the incident, another 17-year-old male, was later arrested. All three suspects were charged with aggravated robbery.
Heard is being held in the Summit County Jail, while the two juveniles are in custody at the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
Police recovered money, pizza and a handgun inside the crashed car.
