Akron police are investigating a double homicide that took place inside a home on the city's south side.

Police responded to the 800 block of Merton Avenue near Lovers Lane just after 4 a.m. Tuesday.

According to police, 54-year-old Robin El-Amin and 44-year-old Tramango Roper were shot to death and found inside the home.

Lt. Rick Edwards said there are no suspects in the killings.

A crime scene unit team returned to the home late Tuesday morning to look for possible clues and  review surveillance video from a nearby gas station.

Neighbor Benny Simmons saw the flashing lights and police officers early in the morning and was stunned by the double murder.

"It's kind of scary. I've been here now for six years in this house. It's kind of scary something this serious could happen," Simmons said.

There have been 40 homicides in Akron this year. 16 of those remain unsolved. In 2016, there were 30 homicides in the city.
