BARBERTON, Ohio — A Barberton bar owner has been found guilty of assaulting and kidnapping one of his patrons, the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office has announced.

A Summit County jury found Garage Bar owner Todd Cleavenger, 42, guilty of kidnapping, felonious assault and abduction on Thursday.

The attack happened earlier this year on Jan. 1.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the female patron left Cleavenger’s bar and went to another establishment and was taken home by a friend after the second bar closed for the night. When the woman arrived at home, Cleavenger was waiting for her.

Authorities say Cleavenger pushed the woman to the ground while the two were outside. Once inside, Cleavenger assaulted the woman and kept her from leaving the residence. The woman later managed to escape by climbing out of a window.

Cleavenger is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 1 for sentencing.
