SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — The Humane Society of Summit County announced that Geronimo, the dog who spent three years in the shelter, was returned.

Geronimo spent 1,145 days in the shelter before getting adopted on Saturday.

He was returned to the shelter Tuesday after the adopter returned him in hopes of finding him a better forever home.

Geronimo is looking for an adult only home and would be best suited as the only four-legged family member.

Most dogs are adopted within a month and a half, according to the Humane Society.

Geronimo, an American Staffordshire terrier, pit bull terrier and mastiff mix, was rescued by the Humane Society in December 2015 after being found crated in the snow, suffering from a heartworm infection and severe emaciation.
