Fatal two-vehicle crash on state Route 585 under investigation

SMITHVILLE, Ohio — A fatal two-vehicle crash that happened Friday afternoon on state Route 585 is under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred near Blough Road around 3:05 p.m., according to troopers.

A 2005 Ford Taurus was traveling southbound on state Route 585 when the vehicle traveled left of center and struck a 2014 Mack Truck heading northbound, troopers said.

The driver of the Ford Taurus was later identified as Terry W. Locklear, 62, of Wooster. Locklear was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

Locklear was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wayne County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the semi-truck was wearing his seat belt and had no visible injuries, according to authorities.

It is unknown if alcohol was a factor at this time and lab results are pending, according to troopers.

This is the eighth fatal crash in Wayne County and the seventh where no seat belt was in use.
