MONDAY UPDATE: Outpatient appointments at Akron General are no longer canceled. The hospital is still closed for general visitation, but it recommends that people call ahead if they want to visit a loved one.

Cleveland Clinic Akron General is not accepting trauma cases or general visits on Sunday as it continues to clean up after a water main break early Saturday morning.

The break occurred just before 4 a.m. on a 12-inch water line outside the emergency room, on the other side of the street from the main hospital.

Akron General was forced to close its general visitation this weekend with exceptions, and its emergency department was on diversion to ambulances.

The department was taken off diversion on Sunday and is open for ambulances at its downtown campus, Akron General said.

Additionally, all outpatient cardiac and radiology appointments were canceled Saturday, Akron General said.

The hospital's emergency department and health and wellness centers will remain open. All hospitalized patients will continue to receive care, Akron General said.

The City of Akron's water team assisted with pumping the water out of the facilities, and no boil advisory was issued, the city said.
