MONROE, Ohio -- One of four Monroe, Ohio High School students injured Friday night on the way to prom has died, the district confirmed Monday.

"We ask that you continue to keep the families impacted by this tragic accident in your thoughts and prayers," Monroe Local Schools Superintendent Phil Cagwin said. "We will continue to do all we can to support our students through this difficult time."

The teen was in the rear seat when a speeding Tesla went off Millikin Road around 7:30 p.m. Friday and overturned, according to Lt. Morgan Dallman, commander of the Liberty Township post of the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

She was ejected from the car and was flown to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Dallman said another 17-year-old student was driving the car when she veered off the right side of the road in the eastbound lane, over-corrected and went off the left side of the road.

An 18-year-old male in the front passenger seat had to be extricated. A 17-year-old male was also hurt. Those three were taken by ambulance to West Chester Hospital.

Dallman said speed was definitely a factor in the crash. Whether drugs or alcohol played a part remains under investigation.

Crash scene reconstruction experts were back out on Millikin Road on Monday, which the sheriff's office characterized as a routine part of the investigation.

The three other students have already been released from the hospital. One of them, Mitchell Foster Jr., was in the passenger seat, his sister said. He suffered serious facial injuries, she said, including a broken nose and jaw. He is a senior at Monroe.

More than 100 Monroe High students attending a vigil Sunday for their classmates who were hurt. Cagwin said a support team would be on hand this week at school.
