CLEVELAND — At the Lexington-Bell Community Center in Cleveland, the emphasis is on learning through art — and learning through doing.

More than a dozen students, many who had never seen a classical instrument before, have spent the last several weeks learning and loving a new skill.

It’s a combination of classical instruments and hip-hop — the brainchild of local hip-hop artist Archie Green.

Green teamed up with the community center and the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society for the program, and received a grant from Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.

The kids are between ages 8 and 12 and have fallen in love with learning on the classical guitar — one of their first songs, “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X.

At the end of the program, the kids will perform a concert at Severance Hall in September, Green said.

They are raising money for tuxes and dresses to wear during the performance through a GoFundMe account.
