An 88-year-old man from a city in Western New York stands accused of attempted murder after prosecutors say he tried to kill his wife.
According to the Erie County District Attorney's Office, Martin Turkiewicz assaulted his 86-year-old wife, Rita, on Saturday at the Garden Gate Health Care Facility in Cheektowaga, New York.
Police say Turkiewicz struck his wife in the head with a hammer, causing serious injuries.

Garden Gate Health Care Facility, 2365 Union Road, Cheektowaga, is cooperating with police regarding a domestic incident between a female patient and her husband that took place at the facility on Saturday, September 9, 2017.

The defendant pleaded not guilty and was remanded to jail without bail. He faces charges of attempted murder and assault.
