TOLEDO, Ohio — A 7-year-old boy from Toledo set up a lemonade stand to raise money for fallen police officer Anthony Dia and his family after he was killed in the line of duty last week.
Max Titkemeier, a second-grade boy from Toledo, set up a lemonade stand earlier this week in order to raise the money for Dia’s family, ABC affiliate WSYX reported.
On Friday, Max and his family headed to the Toledo Police Department to donate the money he had raised selling his lemonade—nearly $2,000, according to police.
The money raised by Max will be placed into an account that was set up for Dia’s family by the police department, Toledo police said.
Dia was shot in the chest just after midnight on July 4 in the parking lot of a Home Depot, and later pronounced dead at a hospital, Police Chief George Kral said at a news conference.
Witnesses told police the man shot the officer with a handgun and then went into a wooded area. At some point, officers heard a single gunshot coming from the woods, Kral said. The gunman was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound to the head around 3:15 a.m.
The money Max raised will be given to Dia’s wife and 2-year-old child.
