A fire chief says two horses died while several others escaped from a large barn fire in southwest Ohio.

The Dayton Daily News reports that firefighters were called to the blaze at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday in Greene County.

Spring Valley Township Fire Chief Marvin Moeller says several horses were inside the barn when the fire broke out. Most escaped, but two horses were not able to make it out and died.

No injuries were reported.

Moeller says the cause of the fire has yet to be determined and the state fire marshal's office has been called to investigate.

Several pieces of farm equipment were destroyed in the fire.
