CLEVELAND — With Memorial Day weekend being the unofficial start to summer, camp sites become weekend getaways for many, so employees of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources have been out surveying campgrounds across the state to make sure campers and staff are adhering to the guidelines of Gov. DeWine’s Responsible RestartOhio plan.

The department said overall campers have been receptive to social distancing reminders and added safety measures.

ODNR is reminding campers to maintain six feet of space between themselves and other campers, and to only camp with those living in your household.

Additional guidelines for campers include:

  • No more than 10 people at a campsite
  • Practice self-contained camping when possible
  • Bring trash bags, food and supplies. Plan to carry in and carry out trash and other items.
