CLEVELAND — Amazon has announced that it's hiring around 5,000 people in Ohio, with 2,400 of those positions in the Cleveland area, according to a press release that announced the hiring of 100,000 full and part-time employees nationwide.

Positions in the Cleveland area include Amazon locker team member, full-time warehouse and seasonal warehouse roles.

Amazon is offering sign-on bonuses of up to $500 for some positions.

Job duties include packing customer orders, shipping and logistics.

Benefits include:

  • Health, vision and dental insurance
  • 401(k) with 50% company match
  • Up to 20 weeks paid parental leave

Amazon is also holding a virtual career day on Sept. 16 to allow job seekers the opportunity to talk one-on-one with recruiters.

The surge in hiring is part of the company's expansion in cities across the United States.

“We are opening 100 buildings this month alone across new fulfillment and sortation centers, delivery stations, and air hubs,” said Dave Clark, senior vice president of worldwide operations at Amazon, said in a news release. “We are proud to be hiring 100,000 new associates with pay of $15 per hour or more across those buildings and in our network. Our expansion also comes with an unwavering commitment to safety. Collectively, our new team members have already completed more than 1,200,000 hours of safety training, with over 500,000 more hours expected, to ensure that in addition to fast and efficient delivery for our customers, we’re providing a safe and modern environment for our employees and partners.”
