Even if you still plan on taking your kids trick-or-treating this Halloween, there’s no doubt about it — Halloween during the coronavirus pandemic will look different. Whether that means treat stations set up outside homes for social distancing or nifty inventions like this contactless candy chute, you can bet it won’t be what you’re used to.

If you’re lucky enough, however, it may also mean you’ll receive a visit from Reese’s new Trick-or-Treat Door, a motorized door that is traveling through the country to deliver treats this Halloween.

The one-of-a-kind robotic door provides a hands-free and socially distanced way to get candy, as it is operated via remote control from up to 5,000 feet away — no nearby humans required.

The 9-foot door is powered by three motors and features a built-in Bluetooth speaker, which activates once “trick or treat” is said. A king-size Reese’s candy bar will then appear through the mail slot from a retractable shelf.

The door can reach a top speed of 5 miles per hour and weighs more than 1,000 pounds. If you want it to visit your neighborhood, visit @Reeses on Instagram and tell them where to send the door by using #ReesesDoor.

If your neighborhood is chosen for a visit, you’ll know the orange door is coming before it even arrives at your house thanks to smoke, lights and Halloween music that comes along with it.

“This Halloween is unlike any other, so we’ve upped the ante on creativity as a result,” Allen Dark, Reese’s senior brand manager, said in a press release. “A robotic Reese’s dispensing door is just what the world needs right now!”

Take a look at the door in action:

If you miss out on the Reese’s door, you might have a different candy-delivery operation coming to your town: Sour Patch Kids will also be delivering treats to the doorsteps of lucky families in 12 cities nationwide.

The deliveries will include Sour Patch Kids Zombies candy and Sour Patch Kids branded toilet paper, because, well, 2020. In one city, the Kids will even roll through the neighborhoods in a giant jack-o’-lantern mobile, personally bringing Halloween tricks and treats right to families’ front doors.

You can suggest a city for the Kids to visit by heading to @sourpatchkids on Instagram. The 12 chosen cities will be announced later this month.

If your town cancels trick-or-treating completely, don’t fret — there are plenty of other ways to enjoy Halloween. From scavenger hunts to costume parades and even just really upping up your decoration game, no trick-or-treating does not mean you can’t enjoy the spooky holiday.

Lowe’s is also offering free curbside trick-or-treating, and you can get a free Frank Monster, Drake Monster and Wolfie Monster doughnuts from Krispy Kreme if you visit your local shop on Halloween in your costume.
