Most squads win some games and lose some game, but not Oakwood Middle School’s eighth-grade basketball team.

They have an unbeaten record of 143-0 over a course about four years. The core of the team has been playing together since fourth grade under coach Marc Mucci.

“You would never realize they are 141-0 (now 143-0) by how they play and the approach that they play. They go 110 percent from the opening tip all the way to the final buzzer,” Mucci explained. "It’s really a credit to their humbleness and respect for the game.”

In terms of talent, the team is well-rounded consisting of players with good size, strong shooting ability and solid ball handling. However, their coach told NewsChannel 5’s Lauren Brill that their individual ability is not what drives their success.

“We have a lot of kids who have good athletic ability but they are much more motivated by the team concept," Mucci explained. “Really just the love for playing for each other, that is what motivates this team and drives this team day in and day out.”
