The Cavs' first game against the Boston Celtics saw a dramatic start as Gordon Hayward of the Celtics injured his ankle in the first quarter.

Hayward was taken off of the court on a stretcher after coming down on his ankle under the basket.

Players on both teams were visibly upset after the injury, as Hayward was clearly seen in pain.

ESPN reports he fractured his ankle.

The looks on the players' faces showed the severity of the injury.

Hayward's leg and ankle were immobilized on the court, then he was lifted onto a stretcher and taken to another area.

Athletes spoke up on Twitter, sending prayers to Hayward and his painful start to the season.

The Celtics signed Hayward to a four year $128 million contract in July, according to ESPN.
