Hundreds of Cleveland Cavaliers fans showed up near LeBron James' house Monday to greet the MVP as he returned to Bath Township.
"I wanted to be here when he came home, said Julia Schwertner of Richfield. "We knew it was going to be a big moment. And it was bigger than I thought."
Fans rushed James' van as his motorcade arrived. He then opened the door, and the crowd erupted into cheers and chants.
"I love you all too," said James who responded to the crowd. "You guys are unbelievable. That championship last night was for everybody in Northeast Ohio."
James spoke for about a minute and ended by saying, "I always want you guys to remember that I'm just a kid from Akron, Ohio."
Fans then ran to his house nearby and saw him one last time when he exited his van and went into his house.
"We just came to basically say thanks to LeBron for not just coming home but for everything he stands for and represents not just as a champion but as a father, as a leader, as a man," said Ryan Phillips of Medina who brought his wife and kids to greet James. "He's just one of a kind."
