An assistant football coach at John Jay High School in Texas told the principal that he ordered his players to hit a referee during a game earlier this month, according to ESPN.
ESPN reports that the coach wrote in a signed statement to the principal that he "directed the students to make the referee pay for his racial comments and calls."
During the game on Sept. 4, one player decked the ref from behind and then the other dove into him while he was on the ground. Both were ejected from the game and later dismissed from the team.
According to ESPN, both boys already have been assigned to an alternative school and are prohibited from attending John Jay games.
