Winds were howling Sunday morning in Miami as a crane from a 30-floor building partially collapsed due to the strong winds associated with Hurricane Irma.
Although Irma's eye was nearly 100 miles from the Miami area, hurricane-force wind gusts battered the area on Sunday. Although Miami will miss the worst of Irma's top winds of 130 MPH, the Miami has seen gusts of up to 100 MPH.
An official wind gust reading of 94 MPH was recorded at Miami's airport.
Local 10 news reported the incident took place at Northeast 3rd Street near Biscayne Boulevard. The building was still in tact despite the crane's failure.
Authorities expressed concern earlier in the week as 25 cranes still stood in Miami during Irma.
A similar incident took place during Hurricane Sandy in 2012 in New York City.
Nearly 75 percent of Miami-Dade County's 1.1 million electricity customers were without power as of 1 p.m. ET.
