ASHTABULA COUNTY, Ohio — As expected, Ashtabula County got the worst of last night's snow, with some locales in the county getting well over a foot.

As a result:

  • Ashtabula County Sheriff William Niemi has issued a Level One Snow Emergency for areas north of I-90.
  • I-90 was closed both ways at Route 7 due to a crash.
  • Thousands were left without power.
  • The county announced that the courthouse will be closed on Thursday due to the snowfall.

I-90 has since reopened to traffic both ways.

A Level 1 Snow Emergency means roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow.

“The roads are still bad,” he said. “We’re asking people to avoid these problem areas and travel with extreme caution.”

Snow Emergency classifications, according to the Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness:

LEVEL 1: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be icy. Motorists are urged to drive very cautiously.
