and last updated

CLEVELAND — It’s going to be a scorching hot Fourth of July weekend, with temperatures reaching in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Even hotter are the days after Independence Day, resulting in heat index values in the mid-90s at times over the next seven days.

Overnight temperatures will remain warm and near 70 for most of the area, limiting any possible nighttime relief.

Friday
Today’s forecast will be very warm and sunny across the area. Temperatures are slightly cooler near the lakeshore but not by much.

Fourth of July
There will be a few clouds with little to no shot at rain.

Our first "official" heat wave of 2020 starts Sunday. A Heat Wave is three straight days of temperatures at or above 90 degrees. We'll get that easily next week.

Tips for staying safe in the heat:

  • Limit outdoor activity
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Wear light colored and loose fitting clothing
  • Wear sunscreen
  • Work outdoors early or very late in the day
  • Don't forget to check on the kids, elderly and pets!
