CLEVELAND — If you're looking for a daily newsletter that offers a lively summary of the Cleveland area's most interesting news, you’re in luck. You can now sign up here to receive our brand-new email newsletter “What Happened Now?”
Unlike some other newsletters that use software to pump out auto-generated headlines, which is to say, all the other newsletters News 5 offers, “What Happened Now?” is written by an actual human being. That would be me — News 5's Joe Donatelli.
About me: I'm a native of the Cleveland area who has been the digital director here since December 2017. Before that I wrote for Los Angeles magazine, Playboy (where I wrote and edited "the articles") and a host of websites, newspapers and several recreational boating magazines. I grew up watching WEWS. Seeing the Dorothy Fuldheim plaque outside our front door on Euclid Avenue never gets old.
Basically, this newsletter is for anyone who follows local news, cares deeply about Northeast Ohio and who prefers to receive information by email like it's 2007 or something. The idea is to bring together a community of people who care about what’s happening in the area who will join me in furrowing our brows over serious matters, arching our brows at amusing happenings, and deciding what to do with our brows when an obvious brow choice does not present itself.
The title of this newsletter – “What Happened Now?” – is what we all say when a friend makes that face and continues a lifelong conversation.
"OK ... what happened now?"
This newsletter is a newsletter, but it’s also a mood, because the internet demands and celebrates quirk.
One more time: you can sign up here. Add your email, scroll to the bottom and check the box.
First edition: Coming in October 2021.
