AUSTINBURG, Ohio — A dance hall in Ashtabula County was cited this week for violating state health orders aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19.

According to the Ohio Investigative Unit, Jewel’s Dance Hall in Austinburg was cited for improper conduct—disorderly activity.

OIU agents responded to the hall after receiving a request from the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office, the agency said.

“When agents and deputies arrived at 9:40 p.m., they observed approximately 150 patrons and egregious violations of health orders. Nearly every seat at the bar was occupied and patrons were lined up behind one another,” OIU said. “Patrons were congregated throughout the premises with no attempts to maintain social distancing and no physical barriers in place. Agents also observed patrons standing, walking freely and dancing while consuming alcoholic beverages.”

The OIU said the case will be presented to the Ohio Liquor Control Commission.

According to the dance hall's Facebook page, it has temporarily closed.
