AKRON, Ohio — A 15-year-old boy, who was arrested last month for setting an Akron house on fire, is now facing murder charges after his 71-year-old grandfather later died from injuries he received in the fire, according to Lt. Sierjie Lash of the Akron Fire Department.
The 15-year-old boy has been charged with aggravated arson, murder and cruelty to animals.
On Monday, Sept. 23, firefighters responded to 238 Cranz Place in Akron, where the home's second floor was engulfed in smoke.
The boy’s 71-year-old grandfather was inside the home at the time of the fire.
Authorities said the boy was located outside of the home where he was arrested. His grandfather was located on the second floor.
Lash said a dog died in the fire and three cats were rescued from the home.
