AKRON, Ohio — A Bath Township man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-skip crash involving an Akron man getting his daily newspaper earlier this month.

Monte V. Porter III, 56, has been charged with vehicular homicide, felony hit-skip, left of center, failure to control and driving under suspension, according to Akron police.

Authorities say that around 7 a.m. on March 3, 73-year-old Ernest Liska was getting his newspaper when a car heading northbound on Merriman Road went left of center, hit a curb, a tree, then struck the man.

The car fled the scene.

Porter was arrested following an investigation by the Akron Police Department Traffic Accident Reconstruction Unit.

Porter is currently being held in the Summit County Jail.
