Police investigating after man shot in the back, killed in Akron early Monday morning

AKRON, Ohio — A 35-year-old man was shot in the back and killed on a sidewalk in Akron Monday morning.

Akron police officers were dispatched to the 200 block of North Forge Street at about 7 a.m. Monday for a subject down, according to a news release from the department.

Once on scene, officers found the man unresponsive on the sidewalk, the release states. The man sustained gunshot wounds to the back and was pronounced deceased.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and no suspect information is available at this time.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct the autopsy and release the victim’s identity once it has been determined and his family has been notified.
