AKRON, Ohio — The woman who collapsed and died while running the Cleveland Marathon earlier this year was honored by her family and friends on Saturday.

22-year-old Taylor Ceepo suffered sudden cardiac arrest in association with physical exertion, pseudoephedrine use and cardiomyopathy while running in the Cleveland Marathon on May 19.

Ceepo earned three letters while playing at Walsh. Before attending college, Ceepo played soccer at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron where she was ranked fourth in the state. She also played soccer for International ECNL where she won four State Cup Championships, a Regional Championship and finished in fourth place at Nationals.

Saturday, Ceepo’s high school declared it “Taylor Ceepo Day,” framing her old soccer jersey and planting a tree in her honor.

In addition to the memorial, the school is donating half of the proceeds from Saturday’s boys and girls soccer games to the Taylor Paige Ceepo Memorial Fund at the Cleveland Foundation that was established earlier this month to honor Ceepo's legacy through causes and organizations that were important to her.

A second fundraiser is scheduled for Oct. 5 at the Walsh University Women's Soccer team’s game against Lake Erie.
