Two teenage girls were arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly carjacking a 24-year-old man at gunpoint.

According to Akron police, the 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl have been charged with aggravated robbery.

The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of Copley Road. The victim was sitting in a parking lot eating food when he was approached by the two teens. One of the teens pulled a handgun on him and demanded his car, authorities said. After the man got out of the vehicle, the teens jumped into his 2018 Ford Focus and drove off.

The teens headed eastbound on Copley Road but were later spotted by Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers after the victim called the police. Authorities pursued the Focus into Akron, where the teens crashed the stolen car near Inman and Lumiere streets, the report said.

Additional charges may be forthcoming pending the outcome of the investigation.
