A Canton community is mourning the death of a 10-year-old girl who passed away after collapsing on her way to school last week.

Delaney Riley, a fifth-grader at Glenwood Intermediate School, lost consciousness while walking to school and was found in her neighbor’s driveway, the Canton Repository reports.

She was taken to Mercy Medical Center on Sept. 15 and then transferred to another hospital but was pronounced dead Sept. 16 at Akron Children’s Hospital, according to the repository.

Plain Local Schools is inviting the community to wear green and pink for a vigil at Schneider Park Monday at 7 p.m.

Attendees will release 150 balloons in Delaney's honor.
