Akron police investigating after 17-year-old found shot to death behind apartment building

AKRON, Ohio — A 17-year-old male was shot and killed in the backyard of an apartment building in Akron, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.

On Monday at around 6:10 p.m., Akron police and EMS responded to an apartment building in the 600 block of Clifford Avenue where they found the 17-year-old victim, later identified by the examiner's office as Dontez Burns, with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said multiple witnesses made calls to report hearing an argument followed by several gunshots.

Burns was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490 or 330-375-2Tip.

His cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest. The manner of death is homicide, according to the medical examiner.
