Avon police cars rammed by desperate suspected car thieves

Posted

Avon police are on the hunt for two suspected car thieves who rammed two of their police vehicles, as the suspects made their getaway.

Avon Police located a stolen 2013 Beige KIA Soul at the Avon East Get Go gas station, at 33501 Just Imagine Drive on Oct. 17.

The vehicle was reported stolen from a Beachwood gas station on Oct. 4. .

A black female exited the vehicle while at the gas pumps, and paid $10 cash for a fill up.

Police report a black male can be seen in the surveillance video filling up the vehicle.

The female then entered the rear passenger side as the male finished pumping the gas.

Avon police officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver of the Kia rammed a detective’s vehicle and then struck a second police car.

The driver exited the parking lot and entered I-90 eastbound at a high rate of speed, and police later had to give up the chase.

Investigators are now attempting to identify the female inside the gas station, as a series of charges are pending, including assault on a police officer.

Detective Eric Bergen told News 5 if drivers see the suspects, or the stolen vehicle, they should not try to make an approach.

"We were very worried that if they wanted to hit police cars in trying to get away, our concern was for other people traveling on the highway," said Bergen.

"Call the police.  I'm not sure what these individuals are capable of, if they've already rammed two police cars, they are bad guys."
