16-year-old boy dead after being accidentally shot in head; case ruled a homicide

CLEVELAND — A 16-year-old boy has died after he was accidentally shot by another teen on May 12, according to Cleveland police.

Officers responded to 4100 block of East 143rd Street for a male shot and found a 16-year-old with a gunshot wound to his head.

The shooting was originally believed to be a suicide, but further investigation revealed the teen was shot by another juvenile.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner ruled it a homicide on May 20.

Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia, spokesperson for the Cleveland Police Department, said homicide detectives are reviewing the case with juvenile prosecutors.
