Arrests made after attempted smash and grab on Cleveland's west side

Posted

Four people were arrested after an attempted smash-and-grab on the city's west side early Tuesday morning.

Cleveland police said they were called to Clark Avenue and West 56th Street after witnesses watched two Jeeps try to crash through a steel gate at the Cleveland Food Market around 3:30 a.m.

The people inside the Jeeps were not able to get into the Market and took off east according to witnesses and police.

About 10 minutes after the incident, a CMHA officer spotted the two Jeeps parked on Quimby Avenue near East 60th Street. When she approached the SUVs, at least four men took off running south towards Chester Avenue.

Officers from CMHA, Cleveland and Cuyahoga Sheriff deputies all responded to the area and were able to arrest the four suspects.

Police at the scene said that a few, if not all, of them were under 18 years old.
