CLEVELAND — A Cleveland Metropolitan School spokesperson said a bus driver is facing disciplinary action after a 9-year-old girl was hit by a car getting of the bus.
The district said the driver did not follow department procedure when dropping her off.
"Although the bus driver did not violate state law, he has been charged here with violating CMSD's Transportation Department work rules and faces a departmental hearing that could result in a recommendation of suspension or firing. We also checked and have verified that the District had not been made aware of any previous violations of protocol for this driver or this stop," the district said.
The driver has been removed from all routes pending the outcome of the hearing, the district said.
The 9-year-old girl was struck last week near West 73rd Street and Dearborn Avenue after stepping off a school bus. Authorities say the collision happened after a car drove around the bus.
Following the crash, the vehicle sped off. The girl was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center and treated for a broken leg.
No arrests have been made.
