CLEVELAND — The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland has announced a new diocesan administrator to take over until the Pope names a new bishop.

Reverend Donald P. Oleksiak, 57, will take over the diocese until a new bishop is installed.

The diocesan administrator generally has the same powers as a diocesan bishop, except for matters which would have long-term consequences.

The College of Consultors voted for Oleksiak after former Bishop Nelson Perez was promoted to the Archbishop of Philadelphia.

Oleksiak has served the diocese in administrative roles for over a decade.

He was ordained in 1989.

The diocese said it could take six to eight months for a new bishop to be appointed.
